This template should not be substituted and yet, unlike other rcats, this template may be used to tag and categorize soft Wikidata redirects.

Usage[edit]

This special redirect category (rcat) template populates Category:Soft redirects connected to a Wikidata item. It is "special" because it is used only to tag soft redirects that are connected to Wikidata items. To tag hard redirects that are connected to Wikidata, use the {{R with Wikidata item}} rcat template.

A typical soft redirect may appear as:

Use this rcat on all soft redirects in any namespace from titles that are used as connections to other Wikimedia projects. See the category for examples.
Note that the {{Redirect category shell}} (Rcat shell) template is not used on soft redirects, so this rcat template should only be used without the Rcat shell template.

Parameter[edit]

This rcat takes one unnamed parameter, |1=, that may be used when a Wikidata "Q" number does not readily fill in, and you know that it exists on Wikidata. An example would be as follows:

...where the number on Wikidata is Q21491525.

Technical note

This template will automatically enter the item number if the soft redirect title is on Wikidata and is linked from that page. Any editor who is familiar with Wikidata can link to a soft redirect from Wikidata.

Error detection[edit]

This template automatically places redirects that are not linked to Wikidata items in the tracking category Category:Unlinked Wikidata redirects. Please fix these, either by removing {{Soft redirect with Wikidata item}} or by linking them to Wikidata.

Printworthiness[edit]

Please do not alter the printworthy settings of any rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia.

In main-article namespace, many Wikidata redirects are considered printworthy; however, there are also many that are unprintworthy, so there is no default sort for printworthiness. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Some rcats automatically populate either Category:Printworthy redirects or Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. Others, like this rcat, do not, and that means it is up to editors to choose which of those categories, Printworthy or Unprintworthy, is appropriate and should be populated. The rcats that are used to populate those categories are:
